October 27 - November 2, 2015

Join us on an adventure in culture with Mayan Choice, as we travel through Ancient Maya sites and modern Maya villages of the Yucatan Peninsula.  The highlights of this tour will include staying at the Native Bed & Breakfast in the Maya pueblo of Chacchoben, visiting the awe-inspiring sites of DzibancheTulum and Calakmul, participating in one of our projects & causes and finishing our trip by celebrating Dia de Los Muertos in the beautiful beach city of Playa del Carmen.

Day 1, October 27th

On day one of the tour we will fly into Cancun and start our drive towards the Pueblo of Chacchoben.  As we make our way south, we will stop for a meal and supplies in the Mexican State of Yucatan.  We will end our first day of travel by settling into the Native Bed & Breakfast of Chacchoben where we will prepare food and beverages as we appreciate the rich jungle night air, lakeside, a top ancient Maya ground.

Day 2, October 28th

After enjoying breakfast, we will visit Dzibanche, a spectacular Maya ruins site, where we will admire one of the greatest examples of Maya architecture and urban organization. 

Learn about daily life, political, and military organization of the Maya as you explore Dzibanche’s ceremonial center surrounded by its temples. Very few tourists visit Dzibanche which guarantees it is peaceful and quiet, just perfect to explore and an enjoy the relaxing sounds of the jungle. We will complete our experience by climbing the acropolis of Kinichna, raising above the treetops for spectacular views of the jungle.

After our guided tour of Dzibanche and Kinichna, we will start making our way towards Calakmul.  We will end our day by settling in a hotel in Xpujil, a town in the Mexican State of Campeche.

Day 3, October 29th

On day three we will journey to the site of Calakmul, a place deep in the jungle with few tourist visitors.  There, we will climb to the top of one of the tallest Mayan pyramids known to man. Calakmul is estimated to have had a population of 50,000 people and had governance, at times, over places as far away as 150 km away.

After we have explored the site and experienced this breathtaking climb, we will head back to the Bed & Breakfast in Chacchoben where we will be able to relax and learn more about the spiritual beliefs of ancient and modern Maya.

Day 4, October 30th

Day four of our tour will be dedicated to our village of Chacchoben. We will have a very unique opportunity to experience the local culture first hand.  After breakfast, we will organize to help with some of the projects & causes that are going on this season.   Then we will visit a local family at their home for a personal interaction which may involve some authentic Maya cuisine.

After we have enjoyed a better understanding of the lifestyle of modern Maya, we will journey to the  site of Chacchoben, host to some of the larger temples in the local area.

After this long day of being immersed in the culture, you will be able to settle in at the Native Bed & Breakfast for one final night in the village before we begin to make our way back to the northeastern part of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Day 5, October 31st

As we head back to the Mexican State of Yucatan, we will make one stop at the highly visited ruins site of Tulum. Once in Tulum, we’ll discuss the culture as it was during the time Tulum was occupied by Mayan Civilization. Also taking time to examine the inscriptions and murals on the temples; describing the decoration, rich iconography and its meaning to the Mayan.

After visiting the last scheduled Maya site of our tour, we will make our way to the hotel in Playa del Carmen that we will be staying at for the final two nights of our trip.  Playa del Carmen, a city located along the Caribbean Sea, is a 45-minute ferry ride from Cozumel.  Here, we will be able to relax on the beach or enjoy the cultural festivities that are going on for Halloween (October 31st) and Dia de Los Muertos (November 1st-2nd)!

Days 6, November 1st

On last two days of our trip, you will be able to enjoy the gorgeous beaches, shoppes and restaurants around Playa del Carmen. By night, you may choose to experience the local nightlife while celebrating Dia de Los Muertos, have a fun evening of Latin dancing or explore the city of Playa in your own way. The area is filled with venues providing Latin, EDM, rock and other types of popular music.

 

Days 7, November 2nd

You won't want to leave but we will have had two amazing nights and days enjoying and experiencing the sites, sounds and sensations of Playa del Carmen before returning to Cancun for our flights back home.
